I was born in Montréal, Québec, Canada, and I am one of the original writers of the Sesame Street Television Show. I am a jazz saxophonist and historian, and the author/photographer of the bestselling Eyewitness Top Ten Travel Guide: Montréal and Québec City, distributed worldwide by Dorling-Kindersley (Penguin), and Hachette of Paris (French). I am a member of the Society of American Travel Writers.
I have created, written, edited and narrated a jazz documentary series called "Universal Jazz", fifteen one-hour shows chronicling the evolution of North America's original art form. During the production of this popular series for national and international broadcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, I worked one-on-one with Quincy Jones, Lena Horne, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Charles Mingus, McCoy Tyner, Max Roach, Count Basie, and many more icons of this idiom. I am a member of the Jazz Journalists Association.
A resident of California for many years, I worked as a contract saxophonist and flute player with many international performers, and as a feature film script reader with one of Hollywood's oldest firms, The William Carroll Agency.
I have recently completed two new travel guides about Montréal and Québec City for an online venture called Home & Abroad LLC, a Colorado software company supplying Expedia with an exciting new customized travel guide process.

I contribute regularly to National Geographic Traveler Magazine, American Airlines in-flight publication Latitudes Magazine, Ulysse Magazine from Paris, Explore Magazine from South America, Canadian Geographic Magazine, The Globe and Mail's Dreamscapes Magazine, and SOTAC Magazine, "North Carolina's connection to the arts and cultural movement". I also write for corporate, trade and non-profit entities like the Tourism Ministry of Québec, Northstar Travel Media, Jane Goodall Foundation, Americas Magazine, and VIA Rail Canada.
I write across a wide spectrum of subjects, including sustainable tourism, alternative health, aboriginal music, intergenerational family issues and corporate responsibility. I live in the Latin Quarter of Montréal with my wife Linda Hart, a painter, who has also given me the irreplaceable gifts of step-daughter Siobhan and stepson Jeff, plus five step-grandchildren; Xavier, Enya, Trizian, Maximilian and Sophia.
I am very happy to announce the birth of my new grand son Charles, born at eight pounds two ounces and is home already, mother and son doing really well! Charles Dodd was born on July 12th, 2008 the same day Thoreau, Oscar Hammerstein, and Pablo Neruda were born. Little Charles is in good company!
